Have you ever found yourself thinking in terms of โgood foodsโ versus โbad foodsโ? Youโre definitely not alone here but it can become a harmful way to think about what you eat. Here are some ways to notice that thought pattern and change your relationship with food.
DO ANY OF THESE SCENARIOS SOUND FAMILIAR?
You decide youโre only going to eat foods you (or the latest social media influencer) deem โgoodโ.
You stick with this for a while but start to feel restricted before long.
You eat food outside of these โgoodโ choices, so youโve eaten โbadโ food and start to beat yourself up.
You tell yourself you are โbadโ for choosing that food. You say โstuff itโ, and binge eat since youโre already off your plan.
You recommit to โbeing goodโ and the cycle continues.
If youโve said, โare you talking to me?โ, join the club! So many of us are constantly told which foods are โgoodโ or โbadโ and neither of these will help us reach our goals. We tend to cling to these promises because we somehow think that this time we stick to things and this time will be different.
Here is the actual truth, no food is really โgoodโ or โbadโ. The sooner you start believing and practicing that mindset, the sooner youโll reach your goals.

If youโve ever viewed foods as โgoodโ or โbadโ, youโre automatically setting yourself up to go overboard on the foods you wouldnโt eat when youโre โbeing goodโ. If youโve ever thought, โwell Iโm already off plan so I may as well ruin things entirelyโ, you know what I mean.
What youโll notice is these thought patterns equate the foods you choose with the kind of person you are. You are not a bad person because you eat a donut and you are not a good person because you eat a salad .
Once youโve started to think about yourself as a bad person, or not good enough, itโs easy to slip into unconscious choices perpetuating that belief. Whether itโs continuing to eat foods that donโt support your goals or skipping the gym, when you think of yourself as โbadโ because of your food choices, it takes away future healthy choices you would otherwise make.
Who has just had an โa haโ moment here??!!
So if โgood foodsโ versus โbad foodsโ isnโt the mindset move, how can you make choices you are proud of?
Stay tuned for Part 2 where this exact question is addressed.
