WHAT IS THE E45 CLASS?

Looking for something a little bit more than the e30, but not ready to take on the e60?… Well the e45 is exactly what the doctor ordered.

WHAT IS IT

As per all of our fitness classes at EmpowerFit, e45 is based on 3 key tenets;

  1. Functional Movement: this is about performing exercises that are known to give you the biggest return for your fitness effort (why train longer, when you can train smarter).

  2. Constantly Varied: every day is a different program. We vary it to this extent to ensure that your body does not get used to any single style of training as it will very quickly plateau if repeating workouts is a habit.

  3. High Relative Intensity: this is all about working at an intensity that is just out of your comfort zone (as this is where the best results occur).

The e45 is a 45 minute class that starts to somewhat increase the complexity of some movements. The weights have a tendency to range from the light through to the heavy and the reps will range from shorter to longer depending on the session. The e45 is a great class for anyone looking to build all-round fitness, but needing a little bit more strength work than the e30, and without the full complexity of the e60.

WHAT DO YOU DO DURING AN E45 CLASS?

WARM UP

A typical e45 class starts with a warm up that has been designed to get the core temperature up, to mobilise the working joints and to ensure that the muscles that need to work are engaged and activated. This generally lasts between 10-15 minutes depending upon the actual workout portion.

TECHNIQUE

Following the warm up, the coach will then lead the group through some basic technique work in preparation for the workout. Depending upon the range of movements in the workout portion, this is generally a 5-10 minute process.

SUPPLEMENTAL

The supplemental portion of the workout is where we incorporate some basic strength, power or strength endurance work. This will generally take 10 minutes to perform and most commonly we’ll use barbells and dumbbells or perform basic calisthenics (body weight) movements.

WORKOUT OF THE DAY (WOD)

The workout portion (WOD) is where the magic happens. Here workouts will either go for a set amount of time, in which the objective is to complete As Many Reps As Possible (AMRAP) or there will be a set amount of work to be completed as fast as possible.

The WOD’s generally range from 10-20 minutes in length and will routinely use air bikes, rowers, running, kettlebells, dumbbells or suspension straps in the program.

COOL DOWN

At the end of the workout, a series of stretches and mobility work is provided to ensure that the body is recovering for your next session.

IS THERE A COACH/TRAINER?

There is a coach there guiding you through every aspect of your training. They’ll be there from the start, helping you through the warm up, explaining the technique, challenging you and working on your form in the supplemental, safely pushing you along in the WOD, as well as detailing the cool down.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE IN A CLASS?

We like to keep our class sizes to a maximum of 12. Over the years we’ve found that this is the upper limit of what we feel we can effectively coach.

DO I GET NUTRITION SUPPORT

The most important about getting our members results has very little to do with what happens at the gym and everything to do with what happens when they’re not at the gym.

For this reason, all of our group fitness members receive their very own Accountability & Support Coach. Together with this coach, you’ll establish your Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG). You’ll then break this down into bite sized habits that you’ll work on each week. With your Accountability & Support Coach in your corner, they’ll help you stay on track and moving forward – a little bit of accountability goes a long way.

Overall, the e45 class is the ideal class for anyone wanting more strength work than the e30, but not the complexity of the e60.
