WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU SLIP UP?

🚆Do you have trouble getting back on track after a slip up?
If you’re like most, chances are you’ll be saying 🙋‍♀️.
❓Have you ever noticed how it’s not your slip up that does the damage? It’s the two days, week or two weeks after.
.
After a slip up we often do these things:
✴️PUNISH OURSELVES
If you’re a perfectionist, this is likely how you respond to a slip up. Your ‘all or nothing’ mindset means you’ve failed and can’t continue.
✴️YOU SAY ‘STUFF IT’!
This is an excuse to break ALL the ‘rules’ – AKA ‘self-sabotage’. If you’re impatient, focus only on the results not the process, then this is you. Self-judgement likely comes into play here too.
.
❎Slip ups bring ALL the emotions into the picture too, and so we’re not just eating too much pizza🍕, too much chocolate 🍫 or drinking too much wine🍷, we’re totally shit, can’t ever do anything right and have no self-control. Then along comes the shame and guilt 🤦‍♀️and all those other negative feelings that kick in when you make poor choices or overeat.
💡The biggest take away here, is, it’s not the actual slip up itself that throws us right off track, it’s the patterns that follow in how we RESPOND to that slip up.
😞A slip up gives us a feeling, there’s no doubt about that, but we often respond to that feeling by turning to more food 🍟🧀– the exact thing we did to slip up. We have to learn a different response to when we slip up.

✅The solution isn’t to simply not slip up, as that is unrealistic, we are not perfect. The solution is to get curious 🤔about our slip up:

Notice the feeling, don’t push it aside, sit with it and name it.

Accept it, then just move on and do what you would have done had it not happened.

✅When you learn that it’s normal and okay to slip up, not to punish yourself and be patient with yourself, it allows you to find consistency, which ultimately is going to get you where you want to be. Consistency is not ever slipping up, it’s when you just pick up where you left off afterwards.
